Ayla the Puppy

Ayla

Ayla is one of Cinnamons pups (who came into rescue pregnant). It was hard work keeping these little pups alive, they were born with respiratory infections and struggled every day. Look at her now, a picture of strength and health.

Hopes Journey UPDATED Feb 2013

The photos tell it all!

Emery Moon’s journey

Emery Moons journey

Just a puppy with a leg snapped in half.

Emery Moon was saved from Moreno Valley Shelter. He was a scared 11 month old puppy that was in a lot of pain due to a bad break in his hind leg. He had no chance of being adopted out by the shelter due to the severity of his injury. People just do not want broken dogs or the expense that comes with them. He was a very unusual looking Siberian husky with dark, almond shaped eyes that made him look like a space alien.

X-rays revealed that his leg was literally broken in half, the severity of the break can be seen in the photo on the left.  Our vet ascertained that this poor little Siberian husky boy had been suffering with this mangled leg and had been left this way for quite some time.

Repairing such a severe break is always a complex process. Due to Emery’s young age, and the fact that he was still a growing boy, we had to seek a specialist orthopedic surgeon that could install a plate that would adjust as Emery Moon’s bones developed and grew.

We knew that the surgery was going to be expensive and we turned to our supporters and friends to raise the funds. $3000 later and some fancy hardware (see the ‘after’ photo) he was allowed to go home and recuperate with Alley at her home.

After a two week recuperation period with Alley, little Emery Moon was healing beautifully and was happy and feisty.

He was adopted and got to go home with his new parents who diligently continued his rehab and care, and they now have a happy and healthy boy.

We love you space alien eyes!

Raina's Journey

Raina's Journey

Over-bred and dumped at the shelter with a horrible break to her leg.

Alley writes

picked up our poor mistreated Raina for her surgery today, it was a long procedure and it was a success. She is resting comfortably at my home. For those wondering about Raina, she was pulled from Baldwin Park and it is truly heart breaking to see how such a beautiful girl has been so abused. Her leg was completely broken in two places. It actually bent in half. It had been left broken for at least a year. She has been bred over and over, she has been abused and neglected.  She also has a terrible skin infection that has not yet been identified. Despite all the pain and hurt she has gone through she's the sweetest and gentlest girl you could meet and just lights up when shown affection.

Of course this husky rescue stepped up to save her when no-one else would. THIS is what rescue is about.. Vetted, Healed and Adopted in 2012.

Nemo's Story

Nemos Journey

Our little itchy bear.

Nemo came to us in dreadful condition. He was found as a stray and taken to East Valley shelter in Los Angeles. The shelter thought that he was about 5 months old, and he weighed just 27lbs.

When shelter staff called to tell us just how sick this little guy was, we knew we had to save him.  Alley pulled him from the shelter and drove him straight to the vet.

Mange had spread over his entire body and into his eyes. His skin was on fire, he smelled horrible, he cried all the time and he was miserable. The vet estimated that he had been in that condition for  2 to 3 months, and he was only 5 months old.

We began treatment immediately, painful skin scrapings, medicated baths, antibiotics, eye meds, he stayed in medical boarding to give him chance to heal quickly and safely.

The vet staff loved him, his sad story had melted their hearts so little Nemo got carried everywhere and spoiled rotten during his time in medical care.

His road to recovery was a long one, skin scrapings, ointments, medications, baths, special diet...but during all of this, Nemo was such a trusting and loving little guy. He just wanted to be held and cuddled and sleep on your head!

Nemo got his very own forever family in July 2012. He was adopted by Nicole and Cody and their feisty female husky, Halo.

It was love at first sight for Halo!

Nemo is now a bundle of health and happiness, although we are told that he still likes to sleep on heads.

Jerry-Lee's Journey

Jerry-Lee's journey

In February 2012 we received an urgent call from East Valley shelter, a 13 week Siberian hit by car, with a crushed pelvis and broken leg.

Because Jerry-Lee bit the person who picked him up in the street we were forced to quarantine him too. Poor guy only bit because he was hit by a car, in pain and terrified! It took months of vetting, rehab and pain meds to get this young puppy ready for his forever home and live the life that every puppy should have. Healed, Vetted and Adopted.

Mamma Laska’s Journey

mamalaskas jounrey

Senior girl. over-bred then dumped at shelter with huge mammary tumors.

Mamma Laska was dumped at Lake Elsinore on February 2nd, 2012. She was being overlooked by everyone, including other rescues because she was old, and needed a lot of medical help. She had been over-bred and had developed huge, painful mammary tumors. The Lorenz family came forward to adopt this girl. They drove a great distance, from Arizona, to pick her up from us. They told us that she was in great pain at times from the tumors and sometimes looks at them and cries, one vet said that the tumors couldn’t be removed, so they sought a second opinion.

On April 3rd Mamma Laska went into surgery. Here is Cindi’s post...

“Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. Mamma Laska goes into surgery tomorrow at 0730 am, the surgery will take approximately 2-3 hours and we ask that you have her in your prayers tomorrow to make it through the surgery safely. We also wanted to thank ARA for bringing this sweet old gal into our lives. We will forever be in your debt. We can not wait until she is free of these painful tumors and can have a pain free life with her new fur brothers and sister.

And please remember that she is definitely the product of back yard breeding and the insensitive and ignorant population out there that has no regard for these beautiful huskies. We have decided that April 3 will be her new birthday as this will be the beginning of her new, pain free, life. The vet has estimated her age as being between 11 and 12, but she is our new Baby.

Alley, from our family to yours, thank you so much, you are definitely an Angel in our Family”

Mamma Laska is continuing to get better, she had over 200 combined staples and stitches in her abdomen and the surgeon had to work via 3 incisions. The staples have been removed and she has a bright future ahead.

UPDATE* this video shows just how fabulously this ole girl is doing.

Chinook's Story

Chinook's journey

Within just hours of being left at the shelter, Chinook was left in a kennel with a pitbull. The pitbull attacked the 9 month husky pup and did severe damage to him before the shelter workers intervened. The shelter called us because they know we can be relied on to take emergency medical cases. We raised the funds to get this boy into surgery. Vetted, healed and adopted.

Worthee, our first major medical case

She was rescued from a high kill shelter just hours before she was to be put to sleep.  A sweet and loving dog, but she was injured which hurt her chances of adoption, and the shelter was full.  When Worthee was taken to the veterinarian, they found out that she had a torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and would have lost use of her leg without surgery.

Thanks to generous donations plus contributions from our own volunteers we were able to have her leg repaired.

The bill for the surgery and after care was over $2000. After 3 long months of recovery, Worthee found her forever home and family where she can be loved and cared for, plus she has a healed leg so she can run and play!  Without help, Worthee would have been just another sad statistic, but thanks to you and Alleys Rescued Angels, she is healthy, happy, and loving life!

Julia Gulia's Story

Julia was another husky hit by a car and then left at the animal shelter. She was in terrible pain. The shelter called us to see if we could help her or she would have to be euthanized.

We rallied our friends and volunteers and started to fundraise to save this poor baby's life. After extensive vet work and surgery she went home with Alley to recuperate. Here is Alley’s blog posting...

“Julia is recovering and doing well, she has learned to crawl onto this green blanket so i can pull her over slippery surfaces to grass, dirt or the carpet so she can walk, she is very silly and we are happy with her progress. Much thanks and gratitude to all those who helped make this possible. She is the best husky”

Julia’s recuperation took many weeks but she is now healthy, happy and starting life with a family that love her very much.
